NextMovie – 7 Reasons You (And I) Should’ve Been at Comic-Con for the ‘Twilight’ Craze

For anyone like me — unlucky enough to be stuck at home instead of going to San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend — you have no doubt heard whispers about some of the fast and furious “Twilight” insanity that went down there.

Well, I’ve been glued to my computer, pressing refresh on my browser precisely ever 45 seconds (any sooner would just be weird and obessessive), looking for the latest updates.

While it cannot compare to actually being there, here, from my vantage point, are the top seven “Twilight-related” things that you and I missed at Comic-Con. Let’s not let it happen again (hear me, NextMovie editors?).

2. Panel Premieres ‘Breaking Dawn Part 1′ Clips
We may have been hoping for clips from Bella’s pregnancy, but that was a little too much to ask for. Those scenes are likely going to be some of the most memorable of the entire “Twilight Saga.” And not to mention all bloody and disgusting (in a beautiful way, I mean).

According the sources, the video that was shown focused primarily on Bella and Edward’s honeymoon and their “about-to-do-the-nasty-for-the-first-time moments.” That, of course, prompted lots and lots shrieking from the excited crowd.

While it will never be as exciting to see those scenes as I imagine it was in that panel room, I don’t miss my ears ringing from the decibel-breaking screamfest. Just because I like “Twilight” does not mean I ever get used to banshee screeches.

3. Seeing R.Pattz’s Crazy Haircut in Person
The photos that surfaced two weeks ago of Robert Pattinson’s new hairstyle — long and floppy on one side, raggedly buzzed on the other– made him look like some homeless gutter punk. Apparently, the cut is for the trippy thriller “Cosmopolis” that he’s currently filming. In a scene, his character flips out mid-haircut and bolts before the barber is done (we’ve all done it).

Do you think those producers planned to shoot those scenes right before Comic-Con on purpose? I do.

Jerks.

4. Watching Creepy 5-Year-Old Talk Sex
Stealing the show away from Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson is nearly an impossible feat, especially at a freaking “Twilight” panel. However, there are multiple reports of a “toe-headed 5-year-old girl” yanking the focus away from the stars when she asked, “Did you like having the baby with Bella?,” then staring Pattinson down “like she was a child from the corn.”

This made the Brit so flustered, he actually called out the awkwardness by saying, “The way you’re looking makes it seem like you’re asking something else.” Sounds classic. Hollywood needs to put those two in a movie, stat!

7. Seeing Lots of Nudity At ‘True Blood’ Panel
I know this is cheating. This has nothing to do with “Twilight” and actually, nothing to do with movies even. However, I love vampires a lot and my love doesn’t end with the Cullens. So, sometimes I also hang out with the darker and campier vampires of HBO’s “True Blood” (but I don’t love them as much as you, Cullens, I swear). They give me a different type of experience, one admittedly more in line with the needs of a 30-year-old straight dude.

Well, it sounds as if the clips shown at the “True Blood” panel were a perfect compliment after the relatively chaste “Breaking Dawn” panel. With teasers to the graphic sex we’ll be seeing this season and the stars we watch actually there in person, it must have been like hanging out with the devil on your shoulder after waiting in line for three days to see the angel first. It’s no “Twilight,” but still..

Some Major Anticipated Movies Of 2012: SWATH, Breaking Dawn

Next year we’ll see two different versions of Snow White; one starring Academy Award winner Julia Roberts “Snow White 3D” and the other starring Academy Award winner Charlize Theron in “Snow White and the Huntsman.” Spider-Man returns to the screen after a five-year hiatus in “The Amazing Spider-Man” starring Andrew Garfield; there’s also the comic book overload with “The Avengers.” And Will Smith returns to the big screen in “Men In Black 3.” But these are not the most anticipated movies of 2012.

“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II,” “Prometheus,” “The Hunger Games,” “The Hobbit” and “The Dark Knight Rises” are perhaps the top five films of 2012. They all have a cult following and are expected to take a huge chunk out of the box office. It’s no secret that “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” is a box office phenomenon grossing more than $168 million opening weekend, but I’d argue two of the five films listed have a large chance of breaking that record again.

There has always been a back and forth debate over which franchise has a bigger fan base, “Twilight” or “Harry Potter.” That question won’t officially be answered until the final chapter “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II” arrives in theaters on November 16, 2012. It’s the wedding that will change everything, the birth of a vampire baby and the ultimate battle between vampires, werewolves and humans will culminate. The books are a worldwide success, but the movies are becoming just as big and drawing more fans.

Robert Pattinson: The object of many a teenage girl’s affection (way before Justin Bieber) remains a major box office draw as the fanged heart-throb of Twilight. After Breaking Dawn – Part 2 lands next year, he stars in Cosmopolis, David Cronenberg’s dark adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel.

Earnings last year: an estimated $27.5million (£16.5million)

‘The Help’ Actresses Talk Roles, Race and Hollywood

A period drama set amid the explosive racial politics of the 1960s South. An all-female ensemble cast. An inexperienced director.

It sounds like a recipe for a movie that would send studio executives running. Yet “The Help” — a complex tale of white women and their relationships with the black maids who clean their houses and care for their children — didn’t just get made. Arriving in theaters Aug. 10, the DreamWorks film is vying for the attention of audiences more interested in substantive fare as Hollywood begins to shake off the popcorn movies of summer.

Based on Kathryn Stockett’s 2009 novel, the film project had one thing going for it: the book’s popularity. Reviewers loved it, and readers couldn’t finish it fast enough; it stayed atop bestseller lists for close to two years.

Still, there were prominent detractors. Some critics carped about a white author writing in a black dialect for a pair of maids who serve as two of the book’s three narrators. Others felt the white narrator — an idealistic college grad named Skeeter Phelan, who persuades the black maids of Jackson, Miss., to tell their stories to her and causes a sensation when she publishes their tales anonymously — was too much of a savior.

Before the novel hit big, Stockett’s childhood friend Tate Taylor — a white, Southern actor who wrote and directed the 2008 indie “Pretty Ugly People” — optioned the work, determined to direct the film himself. When Hollywood came calling, trying to take the property away, he held on tight, set to work on a script and enlisted the support of producer Chris Columbus to make the movie. DreamWorks and Participant Media came aboard, and improbably, Taylor, 42, had a greenlight.

New Times’ Q&A With 100 Monkeys

New Times: So you guys started this tour a little while ago, how’s it going for you?

100 Monkeys: Yeah we started about 3 weeks ago, and its just been great. Lots of energy from the crowds, and our fans are awesome. We have fans that travel all over the country following us to see multiple shows in different cities.

New Times: You recently came off a 100 city tour, what was that like?

100 Monkeys: Well we’re still trying to hit a bunch of the cities from that tour. A lot of the smaller places didn’t have venues big enough to hold everyone, so we’re going back through a lot of them and we’re just trying to play anywhere. Bowling alleys, roller skating rinks, you know wherever we can get our fans in.

New Times: Wow a rollerskating rink, you’d totally have to play on skates.

100 Monkeys: (Laughs) Wow, that would be something. I’m not sure how we would do that, but we should try it. Yeah that’d be really out of control. Especially when we switch instruments.

New Times: So with such a crazy tour schedule, what is a typical day like for you guys?

100 Monkeys: Crazy. No seriously, it’s like wake up, play, sleep, and onto the next town. We can’t wait to get back to Florida, we’ve been there before and everyone is just real cool, laid back, and wants to have a good time.

New Times: You guys are really all about the fans. I mean you give out your hotel info and encourage them to stay there. Has that ever gotten out of hand?

100 Monkeys: Hahah whoa. You make it sound dirty, like some crazy slumber party. It’s more like we partner with hotels all over the country and they offer our fans a discounted rate. Sort of like a Groupon. A lot of our fans are really dedicated to our music, and they travel all over just to see us play. So we want to give back to them, because without them where would we be? Once in Detroit, we did have a pretty crazy party in the lobby. Jello shots, whip cream fights, cookies. But you know, we cleaned up after because we’re gentleman.

New Times: So I’ve been listening to the newest album Liquid Zoo, and in my opinion your sound is very Murder City Devils meets The Doors, and a little Johnny Cash. What would you compare yourselves to?

100 Monkeys: Wow, well you hit the nail on the head. But yeah, we listen to a lot of Motown, classic rock, and stuff from the past, so we like to draw our sound and inspiration from older bands. A lot of rock and roll and blues.

New Times: The song “Keep Awake” is pretty morbid, kind of makes me think about Patrick Bateman in American Psycho with Huey Lewis and The News. What movie killer could you picture humming that song while doing the deed?

100 Monkeys: The Joker. Definitely.

New Times: Liquid Zoo’s release was just a few weeks ago, what was the creative journey like for this album?

100 Monkeys: Well we’re always traveling and on the road. So we get a lot of inspiration from that. And in the process of recording, we would hangout at this local bar called Liquid Zoo, and the bartender would just let us go on stage and jam. We’d get loose and just go back to the studio and start recording. With this album we really wanted to capture that live energy that we have on stage. It’s really hard to duplicate that through a studio album, so it’s been a learning process. We played everything live and together in the studio except the vocals. It was definitely a new way to go, but we wanted to get that high energy that we have on stage expressed through this album.

Collider Top 5: #3 First Look at "SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN" #SDCC

3. First Look at Universal’s SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN

Granted, there are enough Snow White projects currently circulating Hollywood that over-saturation is less a possibility and more an inevitability. Nevertheless, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t at least a little intrigued by the grittiness and slightly darker tone that director Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman looks to embody. Booboo Stewart And More At Twilight Convention In Parsippany (Day2)

PARSIPPANY — Megan Cerami and Heather Delaney have soft spots in their hearts for singing sensation Justin Bieber but they REALLY adore teenage actor Booboo Stewart, who they both got to hug Saturday.
The 15-year-old girls from Nutley were among several hundred fans in attendance at the Official Twilight Convention at the Parsippany Hilton, with some traveling to New Jersey from as far as the United Kingdom, San Francisco and Oklahoma.
The three-day affair, which runs through Sunday afternoon, highlights “The Twilight Saga,” the best-selling series of vampire and werewolf-based novels that have been adapted for the movie screen.
In the hotel’s grand ballroom on Saturday, fans got to question Stewart (werewolf Seth Clearwater), Julia Jones (werewolf Leah Clearwater) and Guri Weinberg (Romanian coven vampire Stefan) about their likes and dislikes and pleasures of being cast members.
“I haven’t had any weird experiences with fans or scary ones,” Jones said in reply to a query. She said she loves classic authors like Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner while Stewart, 17, said he mostly reads comic books and isn’t crazy about watching his own movies.
Fans hung onto Stewart’s words and hovered around a vendor’s booth where his mother and father sold T-shirts and photographs of their son while he signed autographs and dispensed hugs. The actor’s mother, Renee, said her son is a sweet person who hasn’t turned snobbish over his success.

“He does his chores, takes out the trash, pulls weeds. He’s a real nice kid,” she said.
“His personality is so great,” fan Megan Cerami said of Booboo. “I think him being a little shy is really nice.”

Terry Berthold of Yonkers, N.Y., said he isn’t a Twilight fan but he decided to indulge his wife’s passion.
Berthold said he finds Bella, a Twilight main character who is human and torn between her desire for both a vampire and a werewolf, too whiny. If he had to choose, he said, he would be a werewolf.
“I like the wolf pack. I think it’s a little more manly to be a wolf than a vampire,” Berthold said.

Convention vendors were selling posters, lunch boxes, T-shirts, life-size cutouts, body glow, “Twilight venom,” and jewelry to promote the series.
Savanna Wooten, a 21-year-old who traveled from San Francisco for the convention, was most excited about seeing her favorite star, Charlie Bewley, who portrays the vampire Demetri of The Volturi.
“This is, embarrassingly, my ninth Twilight convention. I went to one on a whim, and now I run a fan site for Charlie Bewley,” Wooten said.

The convention runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. For more information go to www.twilightconvention.com/cal/twilight_nj.htm

Julia Jones and Booboo Stewart Twilight Convention NJ Live Blog

Julia loves hiking and out to eat with friends in free time

Julia’s favorite TV reality show is Housewives of NY

Julia says the guys would play tricks on her. Alex meraz was the worst. And just this morning Gil Birmingham jumped out from around a corner and scared the heck out of her. She was always on guard on the set but not at the convention. At the same time, though she says the guys were great and welcoming.

Julia’s favorite was The Little Mermaid. and Booboo’s fans just said “he sang a song from that on a Disney show”. Booboo said , “OMG I forgot about that. You guys know my life better than my own.”

Julia says that she’s happy, excited and proud of her Twilight work and realizes for many people it’s their big break and she is grateful for the opportunity.

Julia said Comic Con was overwhelming. She never saw that many people in one place before (6,500 capacity in Hall H there were roughly 5,0000 there)

Pet Peeves Booboo is people who chew with mouth open and Julia is people who slurp soup or coffee.

They made Julia and Booboo jump around in motion capture suits.

They made them them talk as moving to capture emotion of out of breathness.

Booboo and Julia have a GREAT brother and sister chemistry

Julia says there are very few non period roles for native actors but things are slowly improving. She feels that it’s getting there but that it has a long way to go

his free time Booboo does XBox, Netflix, movies. He’s totally addicted to Netflix

Booboo isn’t a huge reality TV fan

Booboo got into acting via stunt work at first. If Booboo wasn’t in acting he’d want to do animation. Julia started plays and commercials as a kid then went to college and got into indie film and modeling and just kind of fell into it. She’d be a journalist if not into acting and would travel world to cover stories.

Booboo’s favorite Disney movies are Monsters Inc and A Bug’s Life but he recently saw Tangled and liked it. Said the songs are pretty good.

Booboo would like to work with Vin Diesel Julia with Dustin Hoffmen, Marion Cottilard. Booboo says “who’s that?” and Julia sticks her tongue out and says “She’s not in Disney movies”

Booboo says music is harder than acting because you start from scratch each time writing the songs, getting the studio, etc. acting you learn lines and show up you don’t have to do all the fine planning others do that for you, but in music you are responsible for so many small details

Booboo plays guitar, drums, bass, and plunks on the piano. he has a lot of respect for people who are good at piano. He tried pipe organ and totally failed at it. Julia took piano lessons for seven years and clarinet, but says she was a bad clarinet player

Booboo says if he could ask he fans a question it would be “What got you into Twilight?” Julia would ask, “What are your other favorite things?”

Booboo if he made his own band name would run his name backwards and call it ooboob Julia than says, “You have to forgive Booboo he just got off a plane”

Booboo doesn’t like watching himself on screen. Julia tried not to and then she just sees mistakes.

Booboo and Julia didn’t see themselves on screen at Comic Con or the honeymoon scene because they were backstage. They only knew it was a honeymoon clip. They didn’t know they were in a clip until the panel discussion started. I said “We have it on YouTube we can show it to you.” and they they “OMG! seriously! We haven’t seen it”

Booboo reads lots of comic books and Julia looks at him and says “what you don’t read regular books” Julia’s favorite writer are Hemmingway, Shaw, Faulkner. The problem after Twilight is that she has no time to read like she used to.

Booboo doesn’t like watching himself on screen. Julia tried not to and then she just sees mistakes.

Charlie Bewley Live Blog NJ Convention

Elizabeth Reaser really liked his walk up to the final confrontation

Charlie says that doing an American accent is more than the accent it’s more understanding American mindset and way of speaking and then it’s accent or then it’s a flat accent

New projects is a new production company with Steve Graham they are doing a film called Thunder road that explores vets who experienced the drug trade that permeates Afghanistan

If he were a cartoon character he’d be Sonic the Hedgehog

Isabel Lucas, Emma Watson, Emma Roberts, are in his top 5 hot women list

He says you can’t judge by screen personality you really need to meet people

Dead Mouse is an musician he likes that he saw in Ibiza..he loves Ibiza Also likes Queen and red Hot Chilli Peppers,

Daniel Craig and christian Bale are current inspirations

If he had to choose a favorite Cullen it would be Bella

Marathon in May went pretty well he was relieved that he finished it despite being under-trained and over his optimal weight

His IPOD is all podcasts and trance music

“Rob is the most mal-coordinated guy I have ever met”

First conversation with Rob was him saying “How’s it going” and Rob saying “I wish I was at home. All my friends are getting record deals” Charlie looked at him like he was an idiot and said “Yes, but you’re Robert Pattinson.”

Charlie is cranky if he doesn’t get a run in each day.

He says rob has the perfect self detracting humor that deals with the unwanted attention that he gets whether he like sit or not.

By the end of the shoot all the volutri had more time to bond. Charlie jokes even Michael Sheen joined in when he wasn’t focused on Rachel McAdams

Charlie thinks Kate and William are great. Thinks they brought the whole country together. he thinks it’s great for country morale. He thinks it helps royals and British identity and thinks Olympics will also be good for his country.

Charlie says the scene in the trailer where he tosses Olga Fonda at the wall went on all day and Olga was a trooper bruised and dress torn at end. There was a stunt guy too, but it was a lot of takes and a lot of tossing her around.

Guri Weinburg Live Blog NJ Convention

Guri took a piece from his wardrobe as a keepsake

Stephenie Meyer is an awesome person with a great sense of humor and his glad that he met her
Guri wife taught him about fandom

He was surprised about how nice the cast was usually old timers are not like that on sets but Peter, Kristen , Rob were all especially nice

Guri jokes if he got a different role would be Edward or Bella

Godfather 1 and 2 are his favorite movies.

LOL According to Guri, Noel is like that 8 year old brother who smells up the bathroom before a teenage brother needs to shower and goes on a date.

Guri’s uncle got him into movies and then he wanted to be an actor

Guri grew up in Israel and can speak Hebrew as well

Bill Condon is a great director who is interested in what actors want to say and then build

Guri didn’t know what Twilight was when he landed the role. His managers assistant had to explain it to him and she said “This guy is an idiot, he doesn’t know what Twilight is” after she explained and he googled it he said ” Yep I was an idiot not knowing what this was.”

Dance-off the ring leader was Lee Pace his idea and then Toni Trucks choreographed it

Favorite part of Breaking Dawn was working with Bill Condon. Robert pattinson was a really nice guy too, but he loved working with Bill.

The contacts were hard to deal with…and they are harder to deal with in bad weather.

He life hasn’t changed that much, but he does wear a hat to go out. He’s grateful not to have the Rob and Kristen level of fame

Working with Speilberg in Munich was amazing.

He was surprised how much he liked the books being a guy.

Guri can’t do his accent not allowed, and then does this dead on New York accent that says I’d love to do it but I can’t ya know

He’d love to have met either charlie chaplin or marlon brando

The dialect is a mix of Greek, Roman, and Romanian because it’s from 3,000 years ago.

The other vamp movie he likes is Lost Boys.

he kind of likes that his character doesn’t have an ability. His ability is that he’s older and smarter than the other vamps.

Guri would love to work with Woody Allen, Martin Scorcesse, and Quentin tarantino

The stupidest thing he’s ever done is open a twitter account and befriend Noel Fisher
