Review of The Host by Three Fans of the Novel

Three fans of The Host (the novel) and Twilight (the books and movies) reviewed The Host over on Hypable. Our opinions were mixed. If we had to give the film letter grades we gave the movie an A, B, and C.

We all liked the way the script was close to the novel, and thought the performances especially by Saoirse Ronan, William Hurt, and Chandler Canterbury were outstanding. We also felt like the Melanie and Jared relationship had chemistry and was plausible. Additionally, the heavy voiceover worked and was timed with perfect facial reaction. We didn’t mind the contacts on Saoirse Ronan, we felt her facial reactions weren’t compromised. We also liked the humorous and snarky tone overall.

On the other hand, we disliked the movie stylization of the Seekers both the shiny silver vehicles, the white costuming, and strange footwear, as well as the perfume atomizer-like sprays. There was also a key moment when we felt Diane Kruger’s seeker was out of character in her actions in a scene with a gun. We also felt the Ian and Wanda relationship was rushed, that the time frame was too compacted. Check out what each person had to say.

Max Irons on what separates him from Robert Pattinson

'The Host' star Max Irons on what separates him from Robert Pattinson: hitfix "I saw an article in a magazine...'which of these 12 films can be the next 'Twilight'?'" said Irons, speaking with me alongside co-star Jake Abel at the recent press junket for the forthcoming Stephenie Meyer adaptation. "And it listed 12 films. And the common denominator between them was that they had a young cast, that was it. I think people are more fascinated by the phenomenon that was 'Twilight,' but I think the phenomenon of 'Twilight' was unique to the books. You know, Robert Pattinson was being chased down the street by gangs of French girls before he even started filming. That hasn't happened to us."

Edie Campbell, British Model, Mentions Kristen

"Sometimes I wake up and think, 'I want to look like Sherlock Holmes today,' and other times I want to look like a witch from Macbeth," she told us. "Otherwise, I like what Tilda Swinton wears. Kristen Stewart always looks good - she wears what she wants. It's the same with Alison Mosshart - she chooses clothes that she loves rather than what she thinks she should wear."

Eric Maddox talks about Mission: Blacklist and Robert Pattinson

Eric Maddox talks about the movie Mission: Blacklist, casting & meeting Rob and what he might wear in the movie
ROBERICMADDOX Eric Maddox – interrogator, author and OU alumnus explained the process of finding and capturing Saddam Hussein and detailed the dilemmas he faced to about 300 people in Oklahoma Memorial Union’s Molly Shi Boren Ballroom.

This same story is encapsulated in his book, “Mission: Blacklist #1,” on which a movie will be based starring Robert Pattinson, who will play Maddox.

“Somebody wants to make a movie about my story – it’s very exciting,” Maddox said.
Maddox said he has already met and gotten to know Pattinson.

“He’s a great guy,” Maddox said. “When they brought his name up to me, I had never heard of him before. I don’t believe in vampire movies and stories. I just didn’t know who he was.”

Maddox said he wore a single blue shirt for months in his search for Hussein, with no other changes of clothes. The shirt has a bigmouth bass embossed on it, Velcro pockets and bloodstains.
“I’ve still got it [the shirt.] I think Rob is gonna wear it in the movie,” Maddox said.

Maddox had to wait five years to tell his story and write the book due to the U.S. government preferring to keep it classified, he said.
“Since then, the United States government wanted me to endorse the movie, and wanted me to say who I am and what I do,” he said.

Designer Osman Yousefzada talks about dressing Kristen

Grazia Daily: How did it come about that Kristen wore your design?

Osman: Her stylist took a liking to it, pulled it and and she loved it. I got lucky! It is always an honour when anybody takes to your designs. When it finds a home on someone like Kristen Stewart, I consider myself humbled and lucky.

Grazia Daily: Did you work with her stylist?

Osman: I have a showroom in LA [laChambre] that works directly with her stylist.

Grazia Daily: What is it about Kristen that made you want to dress her?

Osman: Kristen has a strong presence but in that there is restraint, there is an element of mystery...intrigue. She feels like a natural extension of my brand so it makes sense to me to see her in my clothes.

Grazia Daily: Did you meet Kristen?

Osman: Wouldn't that be lovely? But no. I imagine she'd be really cool.

Grazia Daily: How did it feel when you saw Kristen wearing your design on the red carpet?

Osman: I woke up to wonderful Sunday morning with Twitter going crazy with pictures of Kristen looking stunning in our Pre-Fall check. She looked amazing!

Grazia Daily: What's your verdict on the way she styled the look?

Osman: It was cool and no fuss. I imagine her to be that way too.
