Mr Lutz was in Phuket for the grand opening of Nikki Beach Phuket at Layan Beach last Friday night, and spent this week doing various tourist activities, including a visit to the Soi Dog Foundation.
Co-founder of the foundation Gill Dalley said it was a pleasure to welcome Mr Lutz and the Nikki Beach team to Soi Dog.
“Kellan has a natural affinity with animals and the dogs clearly could tell this from their reaction to him,” Mrs Dalley told The Phuket News.
“Kellan was shocked to hear of the dog meat and skin trade here and he has promised to do all he can to raise more awareness of the issues.”
Mr Lutz is actively involved with several animal charities and is a strong supporter of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
Mr Lutz, best known for starring as Emmett Cullen in The Twilight Saga film series, features in Expendables 3, due for release in August.
While on holiday he also fed monkeys at Monkey Bay in Krabi, visited Maya Bay and also visited the Big Buddha in Chalong.
