The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Script Review (spoilers alert)

Trouble stirs in the nearby city of Seattle, as Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) rekindle their love affair in the third installment of the Twilight series. News reports are littered with stories of brutal murders while humans, vampires and wolves alike are up in arms (paws?) about the evil-doer behind it all.Edward’s prophetically-inclined vampire sister, Alice (Ashley Greene), is flooded with images of impending doom and confrontation, which prompts Edward and Bella to leave Forks and visit her mother in Florida for what could be the last human interaction between Bella and her mother before Bella is made vampire.

While the couple are away, Forks is visited by the vampire Victoria (Bryce Dallas Howard), who has made a vow to revenge her lost love by killing Bella. The Cullen clan as well as the wolf pack chase Victoria through the forest but lose her as she crosses back and forth over the sacred land boundaries that the wolves and vampires have sworn not to cross. Victoria escapes and the murders continue.

Upon Bella and Edward’s return to Forks, Edward is alarmed to discover that an unknown vampire has been inside Bella’s house and room. In an effort to keep her as safe as possible, the wolves and the vampires agree to put their differences aside and come together to protect Bella, though the constant bickering and machismo is enough to make your head explode. Oh, and of course let’s not forget Bella’s whole, “I want to be a vampire. Wait, no. I want to be human. Okay, now I want to be with Jacob (Taylor Lautner). I take that back I want to marry Edward again” ambivalence.

Bella is invited to a Wolf Council Meeting where she learns about the history of the wolves and finds herself particularly intrigued by the legend of the sacrifice of the third wife, who killed herself so that her wolf-husband could destroy a vampire. Hmm… I wonder if that will show up again later in the script? Subtlety has never been Rosenberg’s strong suit.

The Cullens eventually come to suspect that a “newborn army” is being created in Seattle, either by Victoria or by the Volturi. Either way, this means bad news for human Bella, which is what prompts the two groups to form an army of their own. They begin rigorous training led by the slightly blood-thirsty and moderately awkward brother, Jasper (Jackson Rathbone), who teaches everyone what to expect from newborn vampires.

As the battle approaches, Bella convince Edward (read: more lip biting) into staying out of the fight to be with her. Edward tunes into the wolf pact’s mind-link from a distance and we see the whole fight through his visions. The newborns are no match for the group, but one of them manages to rough up Jacob. Victoria and her vampire lackey Riley (Xavier Samuel) eventually find Edward and Bella on a mountain top, and a throw down ensues. While one of the wolves tears Riley to pieces, Edward finally ends the terror of Victoria.
