“Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2” is making the Thanksgiving box-office
race a runaway before the turkeys are out of the oven. Summit
Entertainment’s franchise finale is on pace for a five-day total of
nearly $65 million after taking in an estimated $12.8 million Wednesday.
The overall box office is looking very strong and could be headed to go
as high as $275 million for the five days, which would top the previous
best Thanksgiving weekend, 2009’s $258.6 million.
Sony’s “Skyfall” looks to have the No. 2 spot secured, with a strong
$7.3 million Wednesday that gives it a shot at $50 million over the
holiday weekend.
DreamWorks Animation’s “Rise of the Guardians” brought in $4.9 million
Wednesday and will get a word-of-mouth boost after receiving an “A”
CinemaScore from first-day audiences. A five-day total of around $33
million, at the low end of expectations, is likely.
