Rob Talks About His Accent & Playing Someone Other Than Edward

From Entertainmentwise at the “Remember Me” Press Conference

Earlier on in the month we told you how we got oh so close to the gorgeous Robert Pattinson at the premiere of his new film, Remember Me.

And now it’s time to share with you what was said behind closed doors….

Playing the role of Tyler Hawkins, a troubled teen is as far as you can get from Edward Cullen, the lovelorn vampire in the Twilight saga, so what made Rob decide to play Tyler?

“Tyler as a character…I mean, it seems like most movies which have young male protagonist as the lead they have to be like a virgin to begin with and have to learn everything during the movie…but Tyler seemed like, he starts off with a lot of baggage and a very full and developed character and ends up just being developed in a slightly different way rather than just becoming ‘Oh I’m fine now, after this movie, after going through this movie I’m fine…and you just never see that in films very much, especially for young people.”

And with the film being set in New York, Rob had to banish his English accent and go all American on us, but due to the professional that he is, he didn’t even have to try, it came naturally.

“Sometimes when you’re lucky you just read a script and the voice just comes out right. I wasn’t even concious of doing a New York accent either, I don’t even know what borough or anything…I’ve just spent a bit of time in New York; you know, just try and pick up on how people speak.

“I don’t know where my accent is now, I mean I wouldn’t say it was specifically London accent any more.”

It doesn’t matter what accent you have Rob, we just love hearing the sound of your voice…

In the film, Rob’s character has a friend called Aiden who becomes very important to him and Tyler’s little sister sees him as a hero. So who does Rob see as his hero?

“My parents are great parents and they brought me up very well…I think that’s about all the heroes I’ve had.”

What about Rob as a hero?

“As for people who think I’m a hero, I don’t know, I think I’m always envious of that. I grew up around a lot of people who a lot of other people regarded as heroes, I think no one ever came to me for advice or came to me for protection so I don’t know I don’t think I’ve ever been looked at as a hero.”

And if Rob just so happens to drop by for a cup of tea, we now know what biscuit he likes with his cuppa.

“I do like a hobnob..”

And offering Rob a dark chocolate digestive is a complete no no – “oh no that’s just wrong” he said.
So there you have it…all the inside gossip from the press conference of Remember Me.
