Catherine Hardwicke Directing ‘Romeo and Juliet’ TV Show?

ABC has just ordered a TV adaptation of Romeo & Juliet — and they want Twilight’s original director, Catherine Hardwicke, to direct the pilot.

Unlike many other Shakespeare remakes, this one wouldn’t be updated for the present day — it would actually be set in Verona, Italy during the Renaissance. (It would drop the Shakespeare language, though.)

The last big adaptation of the play was 1996’s Romeo + Juliet, starring a young Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes.
