It’s round three of the vampire phenomenon based on the popular teen Twilight book series. Following the immense popularity of the first two fantasy flicks, Eclipse creators make it clear that the stakes must be raised once again to keep up with the excitement of the film’s predecessors. And boy, does it keep up. From the first scene, we’re literally bombarded with news concerning the latest vampire drama: a new gang of sharp-toothed villains called “Newborn” vampires are infecting the Washington area, and like every other bloodsucking character in these films, they seem to crave mortal Bella’s (Kristen Stewart) blood the most. But she has more important issues to deal with, like continuing to sort out her feelings for her two dudes, Edward and Jacob (Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner). Luckily, her vampire and werewolf boy toys reluctantly join forces in order to protect her from the approaching Newborns. If you can accept the overly dramatic nature of, well, everything about this movie, you’re bound to enjoy it more than the first two. Eclipse successfully ups the ante with epic action sequences and a decent soundtrack to boot. Oh yeah, and Jacob is shirtless once again. Werewolf fans, rejoice. Feather River Cinemas, Paradise Cinema 7 and Tinseltown. Rated PG-13
