Kosciusko movie house sold out for first showing.
KOSCIUSKO — To say there are a few “twi-hards” or die-hard fans of the Twilight Saga in Attala County is an understatement.
The Gateway Cinema’s theater was full of those fans to see the third installment of series, “Eclipse.” Approximately 200 movie-goers, made it to the theater for the midnight screening of movie on Wednesday, June 30.
The Twilight Saga is comprised of four books by Stephenie Meyer chronicling the life of Bella Swan and the love triangle between her, vampire Edward Cullen, and werewolf Jacob Black in the small town of Forks, Wash.
On opening night, “Eclipse,” made $68.5 million, the best opening for a movie premiering on a Wednesday.
Until around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29, that Lindsey Fitts, co-owner of Cafe on the Square, found herself with a the golden ticket.
Prior to that she had been freaking out because there wasn’t a ticket to be purchased in Kosciusko and the surrounding area. Lucky for her, a friend found tickets in Kosciusko.
The “twi-hard,” Fitts says she has become consumed by the saga since watching the first movie, “Twilight.”
“I really didn’t know anything about it,” Fitts said.
However, after going with some friends to the movies she fell in love. Soon after she started reading all the books and has now read them multiple times.
“The books draw you in,” she said.
She also knows how long it’s going to her to read each chapter – 25 minutes.
“That’s how you know you are addicted,” Fitts said.
If you want to know is she – “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob.”
She answers with a triumphant – “Team Edward all the way.”
And why does she love the blood-less Edward?
“Because real men sparkle,” she said. In Myer’s creations, the vampire’s skin glistens like diamonds when caught in sunshine.
She’s not the only adult twi-hard.
Ila Moss created t-shirts for her friends and co-workers for the “Eclipse’s” opening night.
The front side of the shirt read: “Eclipse: I was there at midnight” along with the date.
And the back of the shirt in bright red features the words, “Bite me.”
She read the first book, “Twilight,” and she said it was down hill for there.
Moss said she was drawn in to the romantic story line and found herself totally addicted to the saga.
She and her friends, who are on “Team Edward,” call their devotion to the series – “vampire crack.”
Of course, Moss has the books and the DVDs but she also has a an pillowcase, blanket, necklace and figurines of her beloved Edward and Bella.
Tracey Williams, a dental hygienist at Autumn Ridge, is like a lot of twi-hards.
A friend got her to read the books and she was instantly hooked.
After reading the books several times, Williams said nothing compares to the author’s work.
Williams said she has tried to read other author’s works and nothing else has captured her interest like the Twilight saga. She even owns the audio books and listens to it in her automobile.
She didn’t get to see the midnight showing of “Eclipse” but has since seen the movie.
Williams said her favorite book was “Eclipse” and she thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
She and her co-worker Krystle Cain have a tradition of watching the MTV movie awards together to watch the premiere of the Twilight movie trailer.
Cain described Williams running up to the TV and sitting on her knees squealing with the delight of a teen.
“I act like a 12-year-old,” Williams, who is on Team Jacob, said. “It’s really pathetic. I get really excited about it.”
Both Fitts and Moss say that the final book, “Breaking Dawn,” is their favorite of the saga and they will be there at midnight when the next film is released.
And if you enjoyed the films, Moss said try out the books they are just as good.
“Stephenie Meyer is a really good writer,” Moss said.
And Williams said the story is that of ultimate love and for that reason, that you can be a Twilight fan at any age.
